August 20 QuashedThoroughly deflated- dont know what im going to do with the rest of my life. "Whilst visions of black holes danced in their heads". Anybody that offers me platitudes regarding this such as " it's not the end of the world" or "just take a year off to decide" while knowing exactly which course, where, how long for and how many breaths their whole course should take had better be an olympic class sprinter. You HAVE BEEN WARNED. Do not think that you are being funny by leaving comments of this nature either. That means you. ..... August 15 Hippie and Proud of itI'm back, and here it is my month in verse,
full of madness, mischief, mayhem and fun,
forgive the bad rhyme as this aint rehearse,
But still better than what you could have done!
At work one morn met a nice guy called Scod,
Sold him the tape he was trying to buy,
And Scod is of course one third of Tripod
believe it was the 18th Of July.
26th Of July brough the UMAT,
quite an exercise in fear and terror,
The most high stakes test that I've ever sat,
Hope the majority's free from error!
Greenpeacers I met with on August 10,
Gave me a form to sign to save whales,
may cost some people a couple of yen,
Due to flagging whaleburger sales.
Seems all this brought out my inner poet,
enough complaints and I'll have to kill it.
August 05 Its not easy being GreenRecently throughout the news media, debate has been raging over the Greens new pledge to "decriminalise narcotics" as it appears to have been publicised. It seems everyone has an opinion, whether they are well informed of the new plans or not. Most people are firmly aginst legalising drugs across the board and I think any rational person would be, however this is not what the Greens are proposing.
They have detailed a desire to introduce regulated use of cannabis for specified medical purposes. Before all of you out there take a collective gasp, lets remember for a second that it is not only the Greens that are investigating the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes. Old Johnny Howard himself supports a 4 year trial into the use of cannabis for the relief of the symptons of AIDS, cancer and MS sufferers. Also, lets remember that both opioids and cocaine are already being used for medical purposes. Even if you're totally against using some currently illicit drugs for medical purposes, the Greens do not deserve to be the sole target of the protests regarding this issue. In their defence, it seems everyone is doing it.
Something I find a little more controversial is their proposals to make drug substitution treatments available under PBS, compensate pharmacists for dispensing this treatment and to extend Medicares range of counselling and treatment programs. There are a multitude of pros and cons regarding this issue. Drug substitution programs are good in theory; replace use of one drug eg. Heroin with Methadone, a "rigorously tested drug" which is safer and has been used for over 30 years to wean addicts of certain narcotics. This sounds good right? Give them a "safe" drug which eliminates the cravings, while also negating the extreme highs and lows experienced by users. But it has been noted that the process of weaning off heroin can take years. And how are these programs going to be suppported? Using taxes thats how. taxes will skyrocket while we wait years for druggies to get clean. Nice.
TO BE CONTINUED.... August 01 Midyear results are back!Midyear results have brought sadness and joy,
a new, scary experience for all,
bringing fears and hopes to each girl and boy;
pray next semesters grades rise and not fall.
Nicer for those who felt bad and did well,
than those that got worse and thought they'd done good,
who are filled with self doubt, how far they fell,
knowing they'd not done as well as they could.
Quite luckily mine weren't as bad as some,
scores reading A+, an A and a B,
D minuses could have been the outcome,
Still for next exam marks we'll have to see.
Stay positive and try harder this term,
Who knows how much more we have yet to learn?
