July 31 Shakey and tutoring." Windows Live Writer Writer is a free desktop application that makes it easy to publish rich content to your blog. Get offline editing, spell check, and more. Download for free"
That's what it says at the bottom of this window. How insulting. The verree ensinyewayshun thet I cood possubly need spell cheker. Honestly. And editing? Pur-leeze. I think I can manage. The program may be perfectly nice, but it is not one with which at the present moment I have the slightest inclination to install.
Why I opened with that snappy quote and the suggestion zat perhaps may Eengleesh ees nowt up too sckratch is that I am contemplating offering my services as an English tutor. It's good money, it's cash, I love English and I love teaching people stuff. Sold. Now I just have to contact schools to try and get them to advertise me in school newsletters and the like.
I'm also wondering whether I should drop math in favour of Creative Writing. Now anyone that knows the first thing about me; all of you internettians included, would know that as a matter of interest, CW vs math is no contest, however when things like future career aspirations and majoring in computer science come into it, the waters murkify. To major in Computer science I would need 25 points of math. At the moment I have 12.5. That means that if I drop it now and decide later on that hold on, I really DO want to major in computer science, I would have to catch up on a semester of math somewhere along the line. The other alternative is doing a swap between the lit subject I'm also doing and replacing it with CW. Ah the possiblities...
Quck (yes "quck"- it's the NZ spelling), think of something interesting to say; they're all falling asleep ooh, I can talk about Shakespeare! No don't groan at me- his life, not his poetry or plays.
Apparently there's some contoversiosity surrounding dear old Shakey; see they reckon some of his sonnets were written to *gasp* wait are you all sitting down? A boy! Do we care? Personally I don't think that it would adversely affect any enjoyment that I would be likely to gauge from the texts, but it might make me a little more interested seeing as how it probably wasn't very well accepted in society back then. But then again, if you consider modern day poetry, just because you write poetry to someone of the same gender doesn't mean that you have any kind of intent towards them, or that they actually even exist. I don't always write from the point of view of the speaker- poetry is about self expression but it's also an outlet for fiction. Just like in texts of any kind, it's hard to unblur that line between the author themselves ( in their living, outward representaion to people that know them etc) and their internal world (imagination, fantasy etc.).
July 27 Hate to say I told you so...Looks like A Currrent Affair (or one of those shows- I always mix up which is which) has finally caught on that fatness is contagious- theyre meant to have a story on it tonight I think, so lets see if their explanation measures up to mine. Also as for that sleeping on campus thing a few of you may vaguely remember- there's actually a sleepout scheduled for 9th August to help homeless people and stuff.
It seems that this semester is all about the comedians- Scott Edgar appeared again at the newsagency as did one half of Lano and Woodley (pretty sure it was Woodley) I think. Besides actuall comedians, two of my lecturers actually sound like comedians. One very subtly, one quite obviously. The first is my lovely programmig lecturer who kinda always looks like he's in pyjamas- not because he dresses scruffily or anything, but he just has this vibe about him. He has two earrings, and exceptionally shiny watch (it sparkles at you from the front of the room, when he travels and waves his arms about conversationally). He also puts a tiny little abbreviated 'tch' scound on the end of words that he pauses after, like 'output' which is cute, but I realised today that this is kinda like what Dave Hughes does. Also the Psych lecturer sounds like Denise Scott as was pointed out by a friend after the first lecturer. This is a little grating.
But we're counting down the lectures of hers we have left.
July 23 The good, the bad and the not so ugly (oh how un PC).Blogging as promised. I was pondering this morning how when I was little, my mum would get me to tell her a small number of good things about my day- thus meaning I couldn't just say in response to the usual "how was your day?" "good." (I also couldnt just use the word good in a response seeing as it's a nothing word. What does good actually mean? NOTHING. If you say 'exciting', or 'slightly dull' or 'interesting' the other person knows exactly what you mean. Good is a rather sorry, nondescript excuse for a word. So I was thinking about what could possibly be a passable good thing that happened today- early on, I didnt have to get to Uni (which recommenced today) until 11 rather than 9, so that was pleasant. Also wasn't late- an achievement for me. Saw a friend on the tram in the morning, who was looking as colourful as ever so it was nice to catch up since we'd both been busy over the holidays. And programming looks like it'll be fun, though hard this semester. Az is online, and also Fillet's back which means youtube that I will actually be able to watch on the uni computers since mine loads it at a rate of a second of screen time per hour (rough estimate) and I got a few comments from random people about the 'blog in 2' previous entry which was only meant to be temporary thing. Also a band I like randomly decided to come play at my uni in september :)
So there you have it- the minutae of my day so far- only the good parts, without the word good. So what've you all been up to? Back in 2I'll update in oh, say, two hours since I'm at Uni and I have a massive gap betwixt and between lectures, thus and henceforth relegating me to almost pure and absolute boredom (slight and minute exaggeration) but since I have a math lecture in approximately 16 minutes on the other side of campus, consider me skedaddled forthwith. |
